Alton Initiatives Management Ltd. (AIM) was established by East Hampshire District and Alton Town Councils, together with Alton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to maintain Alton's competitiveness as the primary service centre for the town and its supporting villages. The vision is to maintain Alton as:
- A superior, traditional market town with a high quality retail and commercial sector, integrated with a managed town centre events and activities programme of regional appeal,
- Supportive of a modern industrial environment that can sustain advanced, conventional and traditional businesses and provide circumstances for new business initiation and long-term growth,
- Located in the Hampshire countryside at the centre of a modern, efficient and reliable communication network that provides rapid rail and road access to the capital, major airports, cities and ports in SE England.
AIM employs a Town Initiatives Manager whose task is to generate and co-ordinate the circumstances and projects that will lead to the achievement of the vision.
AIM has obtained the licence to provide Alton's weekly market and that has created the initial revenue stream which will enable AIM to achieve its objectives.
AIM is now:
- Providing marketing and promotional material to commercial and tourist outlets throughout the region.
- Organising and co-ordinating a town centre based integrated programme of markets, fairs and regional standard events.
- Initiating projects to improve the appearance of the town centre and developing dialogue with local industry to promote Alton as an existing business hub and an incubator for new business ventures.
AIM is managed by a board of directors representing local businesses, East Hants District and Alton Town Council and is part of the national Action for Market Towns scheme and a member of the National Outdoor Events Association.
