Alton Chamber Enterprises Ltd. (ACE) is the trading arm of Alton Chamber of Commerce & Industry, one of Alton's long-established organisations. The origins of ACE start with AIM (Alton Initiatives Management Ltd.), a 'not-for-profit' company established in 2001 as a partnership of East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), Alton Town Council (ATC) and Alton Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI). AIM moved the Tuesday market to Alton High Street and established a number of successful town-centre events in Alton, as well as providing a Town Manager to plan and run the events and markets.
Regrettably AIM ceased trading in 2010, so the Chamber of Commerce decided to take over the company, renamed it and continued the work on a smaller scale. ACE now runs the two week-long events that the Chamber of Commerce had previously established: Jane Austen Regency Week and Alton Word Fest. ACE is now run by three volunteers, with the aid of further volunteers involved in running the component events within each of the two ACE festivals. At present ACE is not able to fund a Town Manager, but the Chamber of Commerce is hopeful that a way can be found to provide a Town Manager in the future.
This website was established by AIM and has been continued by ACE as a service to the community. It is free to list events and it is pleasing to see that more and more organisations are using this website to promote their events.
